Passover Sat, 31/03/2018 - 18:30 to Sat, 07/04/2018 - 19:45

The festival of Passover, commemorating the Exodus from Egypt, transpired just over 3300 years ago and is celebrated for seven days beginning from the 15th of the Hebrew month of Nissan. On Passover, Jews also celebrate the birth of the Jewish nation after being freed by God from captivity. Today, the Jewish people not only remember the historic event of Passover, but also celebrate, in a broad sense, their freedom as Jews.
The Hebrew word Pessach means “to pass over.” During Passover Jews take part in a meal known as the Seder, which incorporates the retelling of the story of Exodus and God’s deliverance from bondage in Egypt. Participants of the Passover Seder experience a national celebration of freedom through God’s intervention and deliverance.
The Seder means “order,” because the meal and service are done in a prescribed sequence. This sequence is presented in the Haggadah (“telling”) which outlines the steps of the meal as well as readings and songs for the participants.
